While it may appear that all PRP kits are essentially equal, there are important differences. The science and technology supporting the Selphyl®.

Mechanism

The Selphyl System is a completely closed system and can convert PRP to PRFM with the addition of a precise amount of calcium chloride dehydrate which initiates the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin, as part of the clotting.

The fibrin matrix serves as a three dimensional scaffold to maintain the platelets at the site of injection. The scaffold also serves to protect the platelets so their release of growth factors can be sustained over a longer period of time.

Selphyl PRFM is a simple, safe, quick and minimally invasive outpatient procedure. Doctor can use a variety of pain management techniques prior to patient’s treatment to ensure his comfort throughout the process.

After proper preparation of the skin, the patient’s blood will be drawn into a vacuum collection as the standard blood drawing procedure. The patient blood will be mixed with tri-sodium citrate solution which is the anticoagulation once combine with calcium in blood. Mix it well by rotating the tube 7 times.

The tube is then place into the centrifuge and spin with 2800 RPM for 6 minutes, at 2200 x g to separate the red and white cell blood from plasma and platelet suspension.

After the spin, the separate gel will be located in the middle to separate the blood cell from plasma and platelet. Rotate the tube 7 times to make platelets well-dispersed in plasma, and become platelet-rich plasma (PRP)

PRP is then transferred into a tube containing calcium chloride in close system.

The PRP that has transferred into the device will be rotated 7 times to combine with calcium chloride. In this process, the liquid transforms to Platelet rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) within 15 minutes.
